NSA Scandal: Gifty Oware Mensah released after meeting GHS10m bail

Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has confirmed that former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Gifty Oware Mensah, has been released from custody after meeting her GH¢10 million bail condition.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, November 12, Mr. Mohammed explained that while Mrs. Oware Mensah has satisfied her bail terms, her former boss, Osei Assibey Antwi, remains in custody for failing to meet his GH¢800 million bail requirement.

“Madam Gifty Oware, it was yesterday that she met the bail condition, and she has been released, but her boss is still in custody. 800 million, what kind of bail condition is that?”

Mrs. Oware Mensah, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of causing financial loss to the state exceeding GH¢38 million, appeared before the Accra High Court on October 22, 2025. She faces five counts, including willfully causing financial loss to the state, stealing, money laundering, and using public office for profit.

Prosecutors allege that during her tenure, she created about 9,934 ghost National Service personnel, fraudulently benefiting from their monthly allowances and causing the state losses estimated at over GH¢38 million.
