Stephen Appiah, Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee and former Ghana captain, has expressed confidence that Ghana possesses the talent to make a deep run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

From Setback to Redemption

  • After a disappointing campaign in 2024, Ghana bounced back strongly to secure qualification for next summer’s tournament.
  • The four-time African champions will be part of the expanded 48-team World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
  • The Black Stars are set to learn their group-stage opponents later today at the Final Draw in Washington, D.C.

Appiah’s Rallying Call

Appiah, who famously captained Ghana to their first-ever World Cup appearance in 2006 in Germany, urged belief and unity:

“The draw [2026 World Cup] is coming up in December, we are going to America, Canada and Mexico. We have done that before when we went to Germany. And I hope and I know with the calibre of players that we have, we’re going to make it in the next World Cup, which is next year [2026].”

He added:

“Good luck. We need your support. We need your prayers. See you in America. See you in Mexico. See you in Canada. Go, Ghana.”

Ghana’s Ambition

  • The Black Stars exited at the group stage in Qatar 2022, but are determined to leave a stronger impression this time.
  • With a new generation of talent and experienced leadership, Ghana aims to rekindle the spirit of 2006 and 2010, when they reached the Round of 16 and quarter-finals respectively.

Appiah’s words capture both nostalgia and ambition, reminding fans of Ghana’s proud World Cup history while setting the tone for a campaign built on belief and resilience.
