Ambassador Smith calls for stronger diaspora bonds through investment and mentorship

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Emmanuel Victor Smith, has urged Ghanaian alumni and diaspora professionals to strengthen their connection to home by investing in education, mentoring young people, and supporting development initiatives.
He made the appeal at a fundraising ceremony organised by the Adisadel Old Boys Association, where he commended the enduring impact of Adisadel College in producing generations of leaders, professionals, and nation-builders.
Delivering remarks on the theme of legacy and institutional pride, Ambassador Smith praised alumni associations across Ghana for their growing role in national development, describing them as “silent pillars” that continue to support education through scholarships, infrastructure projects, and mentorship programmes.
While noting his own background as an old student of St. Augustine’s College, he emphasized that rivalry among traditional schools should ultimately give way to unity of purpose in advancing Ghana’s development agenda.
He further encouraged Ghanaians abroad to move beyond emotional ties and actively contribute to national growth through strategic investments, partnerships, and skills transfer that benefit younger generations.
According to him, the success of alumni-driven initiatives demonstrates how collective responsibility can complement government efforts in strengthening education and human capital development.
The event brought together members of the Adisadel alumni community, with continued emphasis on collaboration and long-term support for education.
