Ghana defender Baba Abdul Rahman says he was left disappointed after the Black Stars were held to a late draw by Wales in an international friendly, but insists the team remains fully committed to improving ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars were denied victory in dramatic fashion on Tuesday night after Wales scored a stoppage-time equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw at Cardiff City Stadium.

In a closely contested encounter, both sides struggled to create clear-cut opportunities during the first half, which ended goalless despite an intense and competitive battle.

Ghana appeared to be heading for victory after midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi, who plays for FC Nordsjaelland, broke the deadlock in the 66th minute with a composed finish.

However, Wales struck back in added time when Lewis Koumas rose highest to head home the equaliser, leaving the visitors frustrated at the final whistle.

Among those disappointed was PAOK defender Baba Rahman, who came off the bench during the match. The former Chelsea full-back later shared his reaction on social media, expressing his frustration while rallying support for the team’s long-term ambitions.

“Gutted we could not get the win last night, but this is a marathon, not a sprint. We will get there. This group will give everything for this precious shirt. God bless our homeland, Ghana,” he wrote.

Despite the setback, Ghana’s preparations for the World Cup continue. The squad departed for the United States on Wednesday to intensify training ahead of the tournament.

The four-time African champions have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on 17 June before facing two of Europe’s strongest sides in what promises to be a demanding group-stage challenge.

While the draw against Wales denied the Black Stars a morale-boosting victory, Rahman’s message reflects the growing belief within the camp that the team is building towards a stronger showing when the World Cup kicks off next year.
