Black Stars hold first training in U.S ahead of 2026 World Cup

Ghana’s Black Stars have begun the next stage of their 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations after holding their first training session in the United States.
The squad trained at American University in Washington, D.C., shortly after arriving from Wales, where they earned a 1-1 draw in an international friendly earlier this week.
The session marked the team’s first workout on North American soil as head coach Carlos Queiroz continues to shape his squad ahead of football’s biggest tournament.
Players took part in a light but focused training programme, with the technical team prioritising recovery, fitness and tactical drills following the transatlantic journey.
There was a sense of optimism around the camp, with players appearing relaxed and fully engaged as attention turned towards the challenges that lie ahead in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Black Stars are expected to remain in Washington for further training sessions before relocating to their official World Cup base at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
The facility will serve as Ghana’s headquarters throughout the tournament as they prepare for a demanding Group L campaign against Panama, England and Croatia.
Queiroz’s men will begin their World Cup journey against Panama in Toronto on 17 June before facing England in Boston six days later. Their final group-stage match will see them take on Croatia in Philadelphia.
With less than two weeks to go before their opening fixture, Ghana’s preparations have now entered a crucial phase. The focus for Queiroz and his coaching staff will be on building match fitness, strengthening team chemistry and ensuring the Black Stars are ready to compete on the world’s biggest football stage.
Supporters will be encouraged by the positive mood within the camp as Ghana looks to make a strong statement at its fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.
