Government plans one of Ghana’s largest palm processing factories in Akyem Abuakwa

The government has announced plans to establish one of Ghana’s largest palm processing factories in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area in the Eastern Region as part of efforts to expand the country’s palm oil industry and create jobs.
Speaking on behalf of John Dramani Mahama at the 2026 Ohum Festival in Kyebi, Julius Debrah said the proposed factory would strengthen the palm oil value chain and generate employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
He appealed to the Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin to collaborate with other traditional authorities in the Akyem Abuakwa area to identify and release suitable land to facilitate the commencement of the project.
The announcement was made during the Ohum Festival, where chiefs and traditional leaders from across the Akyem Abuakwa State gathered at Eseho, the forecourt of Ofori Panin Fie in Kyebi, to pay homage to the Okyehene.
Celebrated under the theme, “Rejuvenating our Customs for Sustainability and Nature Connection,” the festival also featured the enstoolment of Nana Kwame Atuapong Ododobibiri as the Akyem Abuakwa Amanonehene.
Also addressing the gathering, Ahmed Ibrahim reaffirmed the Mahama administration’s commitment to ensuring equitable development across all districts. He said the President remains committed to delivering on his mandate and would account to Ghanaians for his stewardship.
In his remarks, the Okyehene urged the government to prioritise the welfare of teachers by improving their conditions of service, describing them as essential to shaping the country’s future through education.
He also appealed to the government to mobilise financial support to enable contractors working on stalled road and other infrastructure projects to return to site and complete the outstanding works.
