The Ghana Police Service has entreated Adom FM’s newscaster Ohemaa Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa who was assaulted by a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Hajia Fati to report the case to the nearest police station.

Speaking on the Morning Starr, the Director General of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, ACP David Eklu said, “Sometimes when these cases happen we only hear of them on the air….we will advise the journalists to take step because an assault on a person is a crime. Take steps and report to the nearest police station and make sure the police enter the case,”.

He said the Police administration has engaged the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in a series of meeting on how best they can solve attack on journalists, “This issue about attack on Journalists has been raging for the past three or one month ago and the police administration took some important steps,”.

Hajia Fati is reported to have slapped the journalist at the party’s headquarters, Accra for failing to sought her consent before taking pictures of her.

Hajia Fati said, ‘She was snapping [taking pictures of] me, I don’t know her, she didn’t approach me, she didn’t tell me anything. I only saw a flash on my face twice, the third time, I slapped her because I didn’t know who she was’.

Some journalists in the past have been assaulted by politicians and police officers in their line of duties.
