The Ashanti regional chapter of social welfare has arrested twenty eight (28) persons for illegally extorting money from the general public as they use orphanage homes or names as decoy to gain money for themselves.

Speaking to Metro news, the Ashanti Regional Director of social welfare, Mrs Patricia Kyeremateng said, the persons arrested are about seven (7) groups who extort monies from the general public in name of orphanages in various corners and places in the region and also across the country.

She further explained that, the police in collaboration with the social welfare organized the exercise to be able to arrest the offenders and swindlers to bring them into book and prosecute them.

‘Release Them Foundation, Salvation Apostolic Foundation, God of Supremacy Limited, Save a life Foundation, Share in the tears Foundation, Early Kay of Christ OST Foundation of child vision” etc are the group arrested with their representatives using the orphanage homes or names as decoy to extract monies from the general public.

Mrs Kyeremateng has therefore issued warning to the general public to halt and discontinue from contributing and giving out to persons who seek monies claiming to give it out to aid orphans across the region and the country.
