The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Reverend Kweku Addo, has visited the mother of the eight-year-old girl who died in the dawn fire that swept through the Dansoman Market.

The visit, marked by emotional scenes, came just hours after firefighters battled the blaze, which destroyed several stalls and left traders counting heavy losses. Rev. Addo offered his condolences to the bereaved family and assured them he is working closely with the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and other stakeholders to support them in the aftermath of the tragedy.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the fire was reported at 12:02 a.m., with the first crew from the Dansoman Fire Station arriving two minutes later. Firefighters found the blaze already well advanced and spreading rapidly.

To contain it, eight fire engines from Industrial Area, Ministries, National Headquarters, Madina, Weija, Anyaa and Accra City were deployed, along with two private water tankers from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

The fire was confined at 1:51 a.m., brought under control at 3:03 a.m. and fully extinguished at 5:21 a.m. after overhauling operations to eliminate hidden hotspots.

Investigations into the cause of the fire remain underway.
