Ghanaian midfielder, Abu Francis on Friday, May 24, 2025 reached a monumental milestone, clinching a century of games with his club, Cercle Brugge as they climaxed the season with a 3-1 victory over Patro Eisden in the Belgian Pro League Relegation Playoff as they ultimately survived relegation in the top flight.

Despite not making it into the starting lineup for the final game of the season, head coach, Bernd Storck had better plans, as he set sights on celebrating the Ghanaian international’s achievement in a tremendous manner as he introduced him on the 60th minute at their very own grounds, the Jan Breydel Stadion in Brugges.

The introduction of the 24-year-old came in as a strategic step to bolster the midfield of the team as he came on to make great contributions by playing a key role in helping his team secure the comfortable victory to emerge relegation survivors in the Belgian top division. His compatriot, Lawrence Agyekum, whom he mostly pairs with in the heart of midfield started the game and lasted 75 minutes before he got subbed off in the game.

The combative midfielder joined the Brugges outfit in 2022 after a stellar start to European football when he joined Danish giants, FC Nordsjaelland from Ghana’s Right To Dream Academy in 2019.

Abu Francis has been a regular name in recent times for the Black Stars with respect to the national team call ups for games, as coach Otto Addo has shown he has immense trust in the former Gothia Cup winner with Right To Dream Academy.

Francis earned his first Black Stars call up in March 2024 for the interternational friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda where he was handed his first cap against the latter. After that call up, there has been a significant amount of consistency with regards to call ups to represent the nation, playing 4 games for the national team since his debut.

He will be in line for a call up for the upcoming Unity Cup consisting 4 nations which Ghana is a part, in London later this month.
