Traffic on the busy Accra–Kumasi Highway has been brought to a standstill after a heavily loaded articulated truck crashed at the Birimso Bridge along the N6 Highway, forcing the complete closure of the affected stretch.

The incident has left hundreds of motorists stranded, with movement in both directions suspended as authorities work to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow.

In a public advisory, the Ghana Police Service announced that personnel from the Eastern South Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Kibi have been deployed to the scene to manage traffic and assist road users.

To reduce congestion, police have introduced temporary diversions for vehicles travelling along the route.

Motorists heading towards Accra are being redirected through Kibi at Nsutam, while those travelling in the direction of Kumasi are being diverted through Apedwa. The diversion arrangements took effect from 10:00 a.m. on Friday.

The Police have appealed to drivers to exercise patience, comply with traffic directions from officers on the ground, and use the designated alternative routes while recovery teams work to remove the disabled truck and reopen the highway.

Authorities are yet to provide details on the cause of the crash or indicate when the affected section of the highway will be fully reopened.
