Second-half substitute Adama Diabate scored a late goal to secure a crucial 1-0 victory for Ivory Coast against Benin, keeping their qualification hopes alive at the WAFU Zone B U17 Cup of Nations.

The ASFA forward capitalized on a poor clearance from Benin, maneuvering past defenders before finishing brilliantly to clinch the win.

Despite dominating both halves, the young Elephants missed several opportunities, prompting coach Bassikiri Diabate to make strategic changes in the second half.

Early in the match, Ibrahim Dosso had a prime chance to break the deadlock but missed, followed by another saved by Benin's goalkeeper, Mohamed Katchakolo.

Moussa Kone and Youbah Coulibaly also squandered excellent chances before Benin's Achirafou Sambam came close to scoring before halftime.

In the second half, coach Diabate introduced Moise Dieudonne and Soulihou Bamba, both of whom had opportunities but couldn't find the net.

It was late substitute Adama Diabate who ultimately delivered the decisive goal for Ivory Coast.

Ivory Coast will now await the result of the match between Ghana and Benin on Tuesday to determine their fate in the semi-finals.
