Dr. Afare Apeadu Donkor, former Ghana’s Ambassador to China under President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration, has together with 10 other candidates, filed his papers to contest in the upcoming Council of State election to represent the Eastern Region.

The other candidates with Mr. Afare Donkor, 73, are Nana Somuah Mireku-Nyampong III, Kwahu-Asakrakahene and Apagyahene of Kwahu Traditional Area; Michael Oteng Yeboah, 33, entrepreneur; Dr. Samuel Kingsley Botwe, lecturer; Emmanuel Amiga, consultant and Kwando Kwayisi Dan, printer.

The rest are Anthony Yao Dzorkpata, teacher; Robert Godfred Adu Mante, legal consultant; John Danquah Asiedu, lecturer; Nana Bono Abankro V, civil engineer and Nana Okrukata V, driver.

Dr. Afare Donkor, a banker who hails from Larteh, Akuapem, believes that he will win the race due to his unprecedented experience, his achievements as former envoy and his capability to advice the president to achieve his (president’s) goals.

The retired banker who had his second cycle education at Prempeh College in the Ashanti Region and then the University of Ghana where he read Economics in 1968, told DAILY GUIDE that his ambition to join the Council of State race is to help with the development of Ghana and not to make money.
