The Berekum Traditional Council has been barred from all events at the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Ghanaguardian.com has learned.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyeman Badu II, the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and the Paramount Chief of the Domaa Traditional Area, took the initiative to suspend Berekum.

A total of seven paramouncies including Drobo, Nsoko, Wenchi, Dwenim, Kwaatso, Sumaa, Drobo and Domaa joined forces to suspend Berekum from the House.

Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu, who announced the suspension, stated that it would not be lifted until the Berekum Traditional Council provided "something reasonable."

“Seven of us who are chiefs in this Bono Region namely Drobohene, Nsokohene, Dwinimhene, Wenchihene, Kwaatsomanhene, Sumaahene, and myself [Dormaahene] and the people of Bono have resolved that from henceforth we have nothing to do with Berekum in terms of activities in this house until they find a way to tell us something reasonable,” he declared.

This follows the Berekum Traditional Council's injunction, which forbade Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu from attending the late Berekumhene Daasebre Dr. Amankona Diawuo II's funeral.

A Sunyani High Court on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, ruled that Dormaahene could not attend the funeral on Thursday, November 23, as it might cause a breach of peace.

A member of the Berekum Traditional Council, Osabarima Kyere Yeboah Darteh II, filed the application with the court, which resulted in the order.

The applicant claimed that there would be a breach of peace in the area as a result of the Dormaahene's intention to attend the burial on Thursday, the same day that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, was supposed to attend.

The funeral planning committee had arranged for Dormaahene to attend the funeral on Wednesday, pointing out that Otumfuo is customarily the last person to attend a Berekumhene's burial since the Berekumhene owes allegiance to the Golden Stool.
