Yout of the Asunafo South district of the newly created Ahafo region have angrily seized motorbikes belonging to three Assembly members of the area due to their displeasure in the manner the bikes are being distributed.

The angry youth who have been tagged as members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) supposedly beat up one of the beneficiaries of the motorbikes at the  Nkawie Sekyere.

The bikes were to be given to the Assembly Members and was delivered to them by the by the Local Government Ministry through the Asunafo District Assembly about a month ago.

Speaking to the press, he Sankore District Police Commander, ASP Lawrence Adombire said that the police are investigating the issue.

The Assembly Member for Nkawie, Ben Issah is among the members whose motorbike was also seized.

Narrating the incident to the press, he said, "we picked up intelligence that this is what had happened. But no one has officially reported the case. So when I heard about the incident, I spoke to the DCE about it and he also confirmed it. What I understand is that there are just two people doing that. They are NPP members. I have asked the detectives to reach out to the victims so we can commence investigations into the matter.”

The Asunafo South District presented motorbikes to all Assembly Members in the area on the 17th May 2019.

“Three weeks ago, government gave us motors to help our movement, on the 14th June 2019, l was on my way to Nkawie to meet my people and one guy popularly called ‘Anointing’ stopped me and asked me to hand over the keys to him. So I gave it to him to avoid trouble. As at now, my motorbike is still with him. They youth also went to Sekyere Electoral Area and attacked the Assembly Member there, Nantomah Yabuku. They beat him mercilessly and took away his motorbike. They also attacked one Alhassan Joseph and took away his motorbike", he added.

Ben Issah who also doubles as the Asunafo South Constituency chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress has called on the Ministry of Local Government and the Police Service and the District Chief Executive to assist them to retrieve the motorbikes.

He said they have reported the case to the Goaso Divisional Police Command and the District Security Council for investigation.

The Asunafo South District Chief, Osei Bonsu Snr. has so far condemned, and apologized to these three Assembly members and assured them that police in the area are taking the necessary actions to retrieve the motorbikes and arrest the culprits.
