Copyright lawyer and intellectual property advocate, Bobby Banson Esq., has advised creatives to exercise caution in their reliance on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

According to him, while technology offers significant benefits, it should not replace human creativity.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with host Kwame Dadzie, he explained that AI should be seen as a tool to support but not dominate the creative processes.
“AI is supposed to complement your creatives. It is not supposed to be the mainstay of your work. So don’t rely on AI alone because the truth is that I hear the concept that technology has come to stay but there is no technology that has remained stagnant; it moves. The person who thought the normal cameras will last forever now has to deal with mobile phones," he said.

The lawyer further highlighted the unique capabilities of the human mind, pointing out that no technological advancement has yet matched the full range of human creativity and cognitive flexibility.
"So if your entire creative lifespan or industry depends on AI, we will wake up 5 years later and AI will be overrun by another technology. What do you do? But there is no technology that has developed the human brain in a way that is supposed to be,” he said.

Touching on the legal dimensions, the lawyer noted that copyright laws around the world are still catching up with the rapid development of AI technologies.

He revealed that international conversations are ongoing to clarify how AI-generated content fits within existing intellectual property frameworks.
