President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially signed into law the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Bill 2024, which Parliament passed in July.
The bill aims to tackle social, cultural, economic, and political gender imbalances in the country, which have arisen due to historical discrimination against women and the persistence of patriarchal socio-cultural systems and norms.
Additionally, it seeks to promote gender equity across both public and private sectors.
The Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman, announced this development in a post on X on Thursday.
“Update: President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo @NAkufoAddo has assented to the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024. Next Step: Implementation,” she stated.
