Akufo-addo couldn’t stabilise the economy; All he did was speak big English- Mustapha gbande

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has taken a swipe at former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accusing him of leaving behind a weak economy and a depreciating national currency.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face hosted by Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, July 8, Mr. Gbande argued that the former president failed to implement effective strategies to stabilise the Ghanaian cedi during his tenure.
He contrasted this with what he described as a renewed sense of economic direction under President John Dramani Mahama, attributing the recent appreciation of the cedi to the current administration’s policy decisions and leadership.
He credited the recent appreciation of the cedi to what he described as the more focused and locally attuned leadership of President Mahama.
According to Gbande, the difference in economic outcomes between the two administrations is reflective of their respective governing philosophies.
“The only reason the dollar was high was because of former President Akufo-Addo’s foreign accent. And President Mahama has a local accent, so his priority is Ghanaian. Nana Addo was using a French accent everywhere, speaking big English but there was nothing under it.”
“So, the dollar was high. It was a reality, a fact. Nana Addo was speaking foreign accent.”
He argued that the NDC’s economic stewardship under President Mahama reflects a more grounded and people-centered approach, in contrast to what he described as the “elitist and detached” style of the previous administration.
