Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has publicly declared his support for the New Patriotic Party’s newly elected flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, praising him as a committed party stalwart with the drive and patriotism needed to steer the party toward electoral victory.
The endorsement followed a courtesy visit by Dr Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia, to the former President after his triumph in the NPP’s presidential primaries held on January 31.
Recalling their political journey together, Nana Akufo-Addo reflected on his decision nearly two decades ago to select Dr Bawumia as his running mate — a partnership that saw them contest four national elections side by side.
According to the former President, his long association with Dr Bawumia has given him firsthand knowledge of the former Vice President’s values, work ethic, and dedication to the country. He described him as loyal, hardworking, and deeply committed to Ghana’s progress.
Nana Akufo-Addo expressed optimism that with strong grassroots backing and sustained support from party financiers, Dr Bawumia is well-positioned to lead the NPP back into government.
Dr Bawumia’s victory in the January 31 primaries officially hands him the mantle to lead the party into the next general election, as the NPP charts a comeback following its loss in the 2024 polls.
