Akufo-Addo gov’t has not approved new appointments – Fatimatu Abubakar

The Minister for Information and spokesperson for the government’s 2024 Transition Team, Fatimatu Abubakar has stated that the Akufo-Addo administration has not authorized any last-minute recruitments, promotions, or financial transactions.

Her comments come in response to allegations from the incoming Mahama administration that certain appointments and payments have been backdated or carried out without proper authorization.

On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for the Mahama Transition Team, issued a warning that any unauthorized actions by the outgoing government would be reversed after the official transfer of power on January 7.

He claimed that some appointment letters and promotions were backdated, and there was no financial provision for the recruitments.

He also said any last-minute payments, appointments, or promotions—some of which are said to have been backdated—would not stand under the new administration. Public officials responsible for these actions would be held accountable.

But speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem show,  Madam Abubakar dismissed these allegations, adding that all ongoing processes, including recruitments in the nursing and police sectors, were initiated long before the election results.

Madam Abubakar urged the incoming NDC administration to remain patient as the handover date, January 7, approaches.

“Let’s not politicize routine administrative matters. The question should be whether the government is acting within the law—and we are,” she stated.

The Information Minister stated that, the current administration retains full authority until the official handover and assured the public that all actions being taken are legitimate.

“We are operating within the framework of the law. If there are allegations of illegality, they should be addressed through proper channels, whether during the transition or at any point in the past eight years,” Abubakar added.
