Highlife musician and songwriter, Gladstorm Kwabena Akwaboah Jnr, popularly known as Akwaboah, has revealed how the passing of his father, the legendary Kwadwo Akwaboah, continues to weigh heavily on him.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Changes with Roselyn Felli, Akwaboah fondly recalled moments he shared with his late father, explaining that the void left behind is most felt whenever he is about to release new music.

According to him, his father was the one person who consistently gave him honest feedback about his songs and career.

“It’s been a huge blow, but I’m managing. I miss him almost every time I’m about to release a new track because he would have listened first and told me where to make corrections. Now, I have to take all those decisions myself,” he said.

He added that even when the public praised his work, he often sought his father’s validation to know if he truly deserved the acclaim.

Since his father’s demise, however, the Hye Me Bo hitmaker admitted it has been difficult navigating the music industry without his trusted critic.

“I don’t think I’ve fully come to terms with his passing because he was the only one who told me the unvarnished truth. If the music was good, he’d say so. If it wasn’t, he’d also be blunt about it,” Akwaboah shared.

The singer, who recently dropped his new single Obinim, noted that his father would certainly have critiqued the piece before it was made public.

Nonetheless, he believes the experience has made him stronger and more responsible, pushing him to ensure everything he does meets the highest standard, knowing he must now rely on himself.
