Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah has rejected suggestions of unrest within the squad, insisting the players remain united and focused ahead of Sunday’s Ghana Premier League Super Clash against Accra Hearts of Oak.

The Porcupine Warriors will host their fiercest rivals at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi in one of the standout fixtures of Matchday 22.

Kotoko go into the derby on the back of a difficult week. The club were knocked out of the FA Cup following a 4–2 penalty shootout defeat to Aduana FC in the Round of 16, a result that was followed by the resignation of head coach Karim Zito.

Prince Yaw Owusu has since been appointed interim head coach, with Hamza Obeng serving as his assistant, as the club looks to steady the ship.

Speaking to Kessben FM, Amoah was quick to dismiss claims that players had grown unhappy under Zito before his departure.

“No player wanted Karim Zito out before he resigned. Such speculations should be disregarded,” he said.

The forward added that the squad is determined to use Sunday’s clash as an opportunity to respond positively after recent disappointment.

“We were actually looking forward to using Sunday’s game against Hearts of Oak to make things right, but what happened happened,” he said, reflecting on the cup exit.

The Kotoko-Hearts rivalry remains Ghana’s most intense domestic fixture, often carrying significance beyond league points. With both pride and momentum at stake, Sunday’s encounter promises a charged atmosphere in Kumasi.

Kick-off is scheduled for 17:00 GMT, with supporters hoping the focus will remain firmly on football rather than off-field speculation.
