Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah has admitted he was anxious at halftime after his team failed to convert multiple chances during their Ghana Premier League week 13 clash against rivals Hearts of Oak.
Despite dominating the first half at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, the Porcupine Warriors were unable to find the back of the net, creating a sense of panic in the dressing room.
Kotoko, however, maintained their resolve in the second half and were eventually rewarded in the 95th minute when Amoah capitalized on a defensive error by Hearts of Oak’s Kelvin Osei Asibey and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare to score the decisive goal.
The late winner secured a 1-0 victory for Kotoko in the fiercely contested encounter.
Speaking after the match, Amoah opened up about the team’s mindset during halftime and credited his teammates and coaches for keeping his spirits high.
“In the first half, we got a lot of chances and we weren’t able to score. I was very worried, but my teammates and coaches told me that it’s not over, so I came in very strong.”
Amoah also expressed gratitude to the club’s passionate supporters. “I give all the thanks to my fans and all the supporters who made it here. I’m very proud,” he said.
The victory not only lifted Kotoko to fifth on the table with 21 points but also saw them leapfrog Hearts of Oak, who are now seventh.
Kotoko are three points behind league leaders Heart of Lions, keeping them well in contention for the title as the season progresses.
