The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akuapem North constituency in the Eastern Region, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei has commissioned a two-classroom block and a sickbay for the Akropong School For The Blind.

Speaking at a short ceremony, Nana Ama Dokua said disability is not inability and therefore, realized the need to provide a better facility for the visually impaired.

According to the MP, the children will not feel neglected as the new block will put smile on their faces.

“These people are so special so we try as much as possible to always respond to their call just to make sure they are touched positively. The school authorities can confirm that we have done a lot for the past 3 years that we have been in power and for now, we are also considering tiling all the school roads”, she said.

She continued: “When it comes to basic necessity in education and other sectors, 31stthis constituency has had its fair share. We go beyond the pass mark with all due respect. At least a minimum of 2 to 3 projects are ongoing at the various SHS in the constituency mostly funded by the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Program(IPEP) and GET FUND.”

She also disclosed that there is a new nursing training facility currently under construction at the Tetteh Quarahie Memorial Hospital situated in Mampong.

On her part, the  headmistress of the school, Madam Mahela Narh expressed her profound gratitude to the Assembly and the MP for supporting the school and also called on other cooperate bodies to assist the school.

She said, “most of our school structures need renovation because we suffer a lot during the raining season. Some of our blocks get flooded. Government alone cannot do all every one of us must be ready to support too. The school children come from the various corners of the country.”

Madam Narh emphasized on how the school has helped shaped the lives of the visually impaired. She said but for the school, some children who would have now been on the streets begging are having meaningful living and doing well for societal growth.
