Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has lashed out at the the Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, Yaw Buaben Asamoa.

According to Mr. Amidu, the Adentan Member of Parliament should get him removed as Special prosecutor if he deems him ineffective.

This comes after Mr Asamoa questioned why the special prosecutor complains more than he works after Mr. Amidu's rant over the exoneration of presidential staffer Charles Bissue by the Police CID.

Mr Asamoa argued that Mr. Amidu could pick the CID report on the matter and interrogate it further, rather than crying foul that his work on the matter which is also before him, has been interfered with.

“I think it is better for him [Amidu] to pick up that report, look at its flaws… Nobody has asked him not to work on Mr. Bissue’s report, nobody has stopped him from moving to investigate the matter and nobody can stop him,” he said.

In a swift rebuttal, Mr. Amidu said the comments amount to an attempt by Mr. Asamoa “to tacitly direct and control my functions as the Special Prosecutor” in his capacity as the Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party.

The special prosecutor indicated that he is unfazed by such attempts as his appointment was not a political and can thus not be used as a poodle.

“It is time for him and others like him from other political parties to stop confusing the fact that I was appointed by the President of the Republic to mean that it created a vested right in the political party which supported him to win the elections to instruct or direct me as the Special Prosecutor. I was appointed by the President in his capacity as the Executive Authority of Ghana under the 1992 Constitution and not as the flag-bearer of any political party.

“…Yaw Buaben Asamoa should understand that by my oath at my vetting in Parliament for appointment I was not going to be the poodle of any political party and he as the Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party should not try to test my resolve,” he stated.

Mr Amidu maintained that as long as he stays in office as the Special Prosecutor, he will demand to have the independence to do his work, adding if Mr. Asamoa is not satisfied with him he can do the worst; have him removed.

“Should he think that I am talking too much and not doing my job the simple solution is for him to have me removed from office. Until then he should leave me alone to continue to exercise the independent duties of my office in accordance with my oath before Parliament and my oath at my appointment as the Special Prosecutor”, he noted.
