Depression. It is a lonely place with prolonged sadness and numbness that hovers like a black cloud, sometimes at a distance, sometimes right on the top of your head. It tiptoes into your life in the form of sadness but soon enough it takes the form of your worst demons.

The worst part? As the late Coldplay singer, Chester Bennington’s wife had summarised with painful accuracy, depression does not have a face or a mood. You can feel happy and experience joy, with the cloud of depression still looming over your head.

Y’all know I’ve been in a slump for about two weeks now. But I’m working on myself again. As of now today is day one of taking care if myself And I’ve already 1. Wrote my Goals journal 2. Put oil in my hair 3. Combed my hair. It’s been 3 weeks I haven’t combed my hair almost felt and looked like I had dread locks. Take care of yourself because no one else is going to. Sometimes it’s so hard, and tiring, and emotionally draining BUT ONLY YOU can pick yourself out of the slump. No matter what happens, no matter how big the pain your courage is bigger! You got this! ????

Depression is sneaky and catches you off-guard. Imagine puncturing a balloon with a pin and the air getting out really slowly; just like that, you feel drained and numb, without even realising what actually happened. A moment ago you were laughing and dancing with your friends and suddenly all you want to do is crawl inside your bed and cry.
Body positive influencer and a yoga enthusiast, Natasha Noel took to Instagram to shed light on one of the most common yet ignored symptoms of depression, which is, uncombed and unkempt hair.
In her IGTV video, the influencer showed her extremely tangled hair. She is seen desperately trying to separate the dreadlocks but to no avail. Even after oiling her hair, the comb still gets stuck between the tangles, making it extremely difficult for her to comb.
The influencer is seen struggling with her hair for a long duration of time and then we see her holding a large chunk of hair in her hands with a shocking revelation that she had not combed her hair in almost 3 weeks. The relation between self-care and depression Noel emphasized that self-care is so much more than wanting to look great and beautiful. Often, what people don’t realise is when you are battling depression or even anxiety--or both of them together-- these little things like combing your hair can feel like an incredibly huge task and takes a lot of effort.
Struggling with depression takes your mind to such a dark zone that you don’t even want to do small things--like combing your hair or having a bath--that ground you, make you feel secure and under control of your life.

She wrapped up the inspirational and heart-touching video by giving a very strong message to everyone who is dealing with mental health issues. She stressed that no matter what people tell you, if you don't want to change, you are not going to. No matter what your psychiatrist tells you, nothing is going to get better if you don’t take charge of your own life or take the bare minimum effort of getting out of your bed.

Natasha’s video also tells the importance of sharing the nitty-gritty's of your life with at least one person, who knows how to listen, because otherwise, depression can wreak you from the inside.

The bottom line

In the end, even if you are not in complete control of your life, you at least need to learn how to sail through it, in order to not drown. No one else can help you, unless and until you are willing to take the effort to change.
