After ending a 41-year European glory drought and a 17-year major trophy famine, Tottenham Hotspurs head coach, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as manager of the North London outfit.

After 17 days of reaching such enormous feat for Spurs, defeating fellow Premier League club, Manchester United in a 1-0 victory courtesy a Brennan Johnson goal that saw off Manchester United in the final, the 59-year-old Australian got sacked after club management released a statement on his dismissal, stating the decision was made after a review of performances and after significant reflection.

“Following a review of performances and significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties”

“Ange joined us from Celtic in the summer of 2023 and oversaw a period of change on the pitch, returning us to the attacking brand of football that has traditionally been associated with the Club, while writing a new chapter in our history by leading us to UEFA Europa League glory in Bilbao last month - an achievement that live with us all forever.”

The Greek-born manager oversaw the club’s successful return to Champions League football under the lights even as they finished 17th on the league log, amassing 78 points in their last 66 Premier League games since his arrival in the 2023-2024 season, as they also had to deal with numerous injuries in the team, leading to the club prioritizing just European football in that regard.

However, in the Club’s statement, it was revealed that they were unhappy about their performance in the just ended 2024-2025 season as it marked the club’s worst-ever Premier League finish in a single season, citing how extenuating circumstances like injuries became a factor in their campaign.

Notwithstanding the fact that the manager has been sacked, the Club acknowledged the fact that he has been the one to bring back glory to North London as they revealed that it has been one of the Club’s greatest moments in history as he became only the third ever manager to win a European trophy in their history.

The club concluded in their statement that they based their decision not on “emotions aligned to the triumph” and felt a change was necessary after a “review of performances”. He only oversaw duties for just two years after signing a four-year-deal.
