District Chief Executive (DCE) of Akyem Kwabeng in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region, Mr Isaac Asomaning Asanoah has bitten what he could not chew after his refusal to attend the durbar of the Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin.

He has thus threatened to deal with the DCE for involving himself in the chieftaincy issues of Akyem Kwabeng.

The DCE on Tuesday failed to attend a durbar organized by Kwabeng chiefs in honour of the Okyenehene during his visit to the town.

The DCE absence is due to his relations to a military officer, Brigadier-General Charles Awuiti, who has been holding himself as the chief of Kwabeng since 2014 although there is a chief in the town.

The DCE boycotted the durbar without given any reasons to the chiefs. His colleague DCE of Atiwa East, Kwabena Nkansah honoured the invitation.

Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin who was not enthused with the attitude of the DCE threatened to deal with him in the coming days.

The Okyenhene also warned the military officer, Brigadier-General Awuiti, to stop holding himself as chief since his installation was not done in the right process to occupy the stool and, therefore, it was null and void.

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin was furious while speaking in reactions to a protest that was staged against him on his arrival to the town by the military officer faction.

The Okyenehene issued a directive to the military officer and leaders of the Akanwin Family to appear before the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council in Kyebi to apologise for their action and demonstrate a change of good behaviour.

"Am saying this and repeating it, if the family fails to come to Kyebi in four days to apologise and show remorse for their deeds, the Okyeman Council will banish the entire Akanwin Family from succession to the Kwabeng Stool,” Okyenhene angrily fumed.

Okyenhene explained that the Okyeman had its own customary processes that served as a guide for the enstoolment and destoolment of chiefs in the traditional area.

He said, "we have a chief in this town who is Dasebre Anyimadu Katamanto, so I would not allow anyone to hide behind chieftaincy to tarnish the image of Okyeman. Chieftaincy disputes do not promote development, for which reason would not be entertained".

“If anybody is insistent on disturbing Okyeman, I swear by the Okyeman Stool that whether I am dead or alive, Brigadier Awuiti can never be a chief in Okyeman,” he stressed.

The Okyenhene further warned government officials especially the Police to stay away from chieftaincies issues.
