Anthony Joshua, the British-Nigerian two-time world heavyweight champion, has been discharged from hospital following a tragic car accident near Lagos that claimed the lives of two of his close friends.

The Accident


Joshua was travelling in the back of a black SUV when it collided with a stationary truck. His friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, both described as integral members of his team, were killed in the crash. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was treated at Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi before being released.

Regional governments of Lagos and Ogun states confirmed Joshua’s discharge:

“Anthony Joshua was discharged from hospital late this afternoon though heavy hearted and full of emotions over the loss of his two close friends he was deemed fit (enough) to recuperate from home.”

The statement also praised the medical staff for their professionalism and care.

Joshua’s spokesperson emphasized the deep personal loss, noting that Ayodele and Ghami were “close friends and integral members of Anthony’s team.”

Paying Respects


Joshua and his mother visited a funeral home on Wednesday to pay respects ahead of the repatriation of his friends’ remains to the UK. His Nigerian logistics coordinator, Mr. Omoboriowo, described Joshua’s family as “like my other family in the UK,” underlining the close bonds involved.
