Antoine Semenyo opens up on Bournemouth's impressive season
5th June 2025
Ghanaian red-hot attacker, Antoine Semenyo has opened up on his club, AFC Bournemouth's fruitful campaign in the just ended 2024-2025 Premier League season, telling how the club have been able to surpass in reality, the expectations and even their set goals and ambitions.
The Cherries were able to record enormous and great performances as well as impressive goal scoring runs that resulted in them finishing on the 12th place on the log, three places higher than the previous season in which they finished 12th on the log. Their hopes of possibly featuring in European football in the upcoming 2025-2026 season was dashed and amounted to nothing but the Ghanaian international reiterates that the team has a fine and really good season as it was better than the preceding one.
"I think it started from preseason, really. I think everyone was just ready to go. Kind of repeat what we'd done in the season before. And I think we've exceeded the expectations, really" he said.
"So I think it stems down to the philosophy working again: those intensive speeds and just that mentality. I think everyone's mentality is top here and our place in the table shows that." he told Showmax in an interview.
Semenyo also revealed how he turned down several clubs to join Bournemouth, citing how strong the interests were at the time he was joining the Dorset outfit. The 25 year old joined the Cherries in January 2023 for a fee worth £10M on a four-and-a-half-year basis from Bristol City. Since joining, the Ghanaian has become a very pivotal figure in the setup as he has reach 81 games and scored 20 goals for the Premier League side.
"I had a few clubs that were quite interested. But Bournemouth had kept track from that summer through to the World Cup, through to January, so their interest was really strong." he added.
"They were watching me, checking up on me, and that showed how good the club is. They were so interested."
"Yeah I knew that my heart was set on joining Bournemouth even though I was having interest and I just never looked back from when I signed."
Semenyo had a stellar campaign, netting 11 goals and reaching an impressive five assists to his name and due to a fine season the Ghanaian attacker had, it has attracted interests from top Premier League clubs like Tottenham, Manchester United and others also.
