The deputy communications officer for Bortianor ngleshie Amanfrom of the NDC Mr. Edward Mortey has waded into the debate surrounding president Nana Addo's appointment of Mrs Jane Mensah as the EC chairperson.
Mr. Mortey said it is a disappointment for us to wake up and hear in the news Mrs Jane Mensah is the new EC boss " am saying this because President Nana Addo promised to appoint a neutral person but what we are seeing is not neutralized person.
Mr. Mortey made this statements on rejoiceTV's Monday morning show.
"The role of a chair of the EC must be devoid and have no suspicion of bias towards any political party, the office as well is a stakeholder and plays a major role in consolidating our democracy "
Ghanaians must also know these about Mrs Jean Mensah.
1. From 1993 to 1996, she was a known activist of the NPP as a student of law on legon Campus. Her obsession with Adu Boahene T-shirts during her days in legon gave her a brand that made her known to almost everyone on campus.
She has since remained an active member of the NPP.
2. Her husband Mr Charles Mensah is one of the major financiers of the NPP , played a crucial role in the lead up to the 2016 elections and also a former CEO of Valco .
Note also, that Charlotte Osei(the fired EC) was a Teaching Assistant at the faculty of Law because of her sterling performance and has equally distinguished herself as both NCCE boss and electoral commissioner by conducting one of the most peaceful elections even in the face of stiff opposition from within the commission and the NPP. Yet she has been fired for “incompetence”. A term we are yet to establish. You can only begin to make your own deductions about the competence of the proposed EC in relation to Charlotte Osei.
Dr. Asare Bossman is known very well by the NDC, he has publicly declared himself as anti NDC on the premise of various assertions and statements he has made eover the years
Mr. Edward Mortey made a reference on Hon. Kennedy Agyapong's issue with parliament that it is good for our democracy if he has regretted and says he is sorry.
