10th October 2025
A Metro Mass Transit bus traveling from Bunkpurugu to Tamale was ambushed by armed robbers in the early hours of Friday, October 10, 2025, leaving one person dead and three others with gunshot wounds.
The incident took place around 2:27 a.m. on the Duuklotuk–Nakpanduri highway when the attackers, wielding torchlights, attempted to flag down the moving bus. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver, sensing danger, continued driving, prompting the robbers to open fire on the vehicle.
One eyewitness described the attack, saying, “The armed robbers didn’t block the road with any object. They stopped the bus with torchlights, and when the driver refused to stop, they started shooting at the back of the bus. The place where it happened was not a community-based location.”
The deceased and the injured passengers were immediately rushed to Faith Community Hospital in Nakpanduri for medical treatment.
Surviving passengers voiced concerns over the ongoing early-morning bus schedules, highlighting the risks of robbery and ambush that travelers face during these hours.
