Former Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation (GBC), William Ampem Darko, has called for the arrested and prosecution of the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Sam George.
The former Director is also calling for the same actions against a musician, Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus) for inciting the public against the payment of TV license.
There have been controversies over the payments of the TV license fees from the public. A-Plus on his facebook post said he would be the first to go to jail over the issue because he would not pay.
The Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Sam George, was also heard on radio saying the GBC does not have the right to take such fees from the public.
Commenting on the issue on 3FM, Mr. Ampem Darko said “if I were the Director-General at the GBC now, they will have gone to court by now. A-Plus and Hon Same George would have been in court by now”.
I will go to their homes to take the money and if they refuse to pay, I will take them to court”, he said.
Mr. Ampem Darko said “Hon Sam George, a member of Parliament who made the law for the GBC to collect the TV License, you go on radio station to instigate people not to pay, I would have taken you to court to tell the court you would not pay”.
“Why doesn’t he fight it in the house [Parliament]?. He has the capabilities to fight it in the house”, he explained.
