Asante Kotoko are reportedly considering Bechem United goalkeeper Dari Aziz Haruna as a potential replacement for Frederick Asare, whose future at the club remains uncertain.
Although Asare’s contract runs until June 2025, talks over a renewal have yet to result in a finalized deal. While the club has agreed terms with the 25-year-old, the lack of a signed extension has prompted Kotoko to explore alternative options.
Haruna, 24, has had a standout campaign with Bechem United, playing 27 Ghana Premier League matches, keeping 15 clean sheets, and conceding just 19 goals—one of the best goalkeeping records in the league. His consistent form has caught the attention of the Porcupine Warriors, who are keen to shore up their goalkeeping department ahead of the 2024/25 season.
By contrast, Asare has had limited opportunities, featuring in just 15 league games this season. Despite keeping seven clean sheets, his reduced playing time has stalled his progress, especially at the international level, where he earned his first senior Black Stars call-up in 2023 but has yet to make his debut.
Should contract talks with Asare collapse, Kotoko are expected to move swiftly for Haruna, who would bring form, stability, and command to the goalpost as the team looks to rebuild under Prosper Narteh Ogum for a more competitive campaign.
An official decision is expected soon as Kotoko prepares for the upcoming transfer window.
