The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has publicly reprimanded the Bono Regional Minister for what he described as improper interference in the Sampa chieftaincy dispute, warning against the misuse of political authority in traditional matters.
Otumfuo made the remarks on Monday at the final Asanteman Council meeting of 2025, held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
According to the Asantehene, the Bono Regional Minister, who is also a lawyer, has a personal interest in the Sampa chieftaincy case and must therefore refrain from using his position in government to influence the matter.
He stressed that chieftaincy issues fall strictly within the traditional governance system and must be handled in accordance with customary laws and established judicial processes, free from political interference.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II made it clear that he would not tolerate any attempt by political office holders to encroach on the authority of traditional institutions, especially in sensitive disputes that require neutrality and respect for due process.
The Asantehene’s intervention underscores the long-standing position of the Asante Kingdom that the separation between political power and traditional authority must be respected to preserve peace, justice and the sanctity of chieftaincy institutions.
