Tensions have flared in parts of the Ashanti Region as residents within the catchment area of Adamus Resources staged a fiery protest, demanding access to portions of the company’s concession for community mining.
Youth from Salma, Akamko, Bamiako and nearby communities blocked the main entrance to the mine and set ablaze a security post, accusing the company of sidelining locals while offering opportunities to outsiders.
The situation escalated until a joint team of police and military personnel intervened to restore order.
Protesters say they have been denied access to small-scale mining plots, deepening unemployment and economic hardship in their communities.

“Foreigners are being leased concessions for alluvial mining, denying local interests,” one protester, Kwaku Anum, said, adding that the communities have also seen little development despite the company’s presence.
The demonstrators further criticised the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for what they describe as inaction, urging the sector minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, to investigate the situation.
They have also petitioned John Dramani Mahama, calling for an independent probe into the company’s operations and its relationship with host communities.
Residents warn that the unresolved grievances could escalate into broader security concerns if not urgently addressed.
