The Ashanti Regional Police Command has successfully arrested a notorious armed robbery syndicate linked to a series of violent residential attacks across Kumasi and its surrounding communities.

The operation, conducted on Friday, June 27, 2025, at around 11:30 a.m., was a coordinated effort involving rapid response teams from the KNUST District Police and Regional Operations, guided by intelligence from the Police Intelligence Department (PID).

During the arrest, a gun battle ensued, leaving one suspect fatally wounded.

The injured individual was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where he was pronounced dead. Another suspect, identified as Yahaya Nuhu, remains at large and is actively being pursued by the police.

Arrested Suspects and Confessions


The police have arrested eight individuals believed to be members of the robbery gang:

  • Kwadwo Kyei Baffour, 39

  • Joseph Oppong (alias Joe), 30

  • Bernard Owusu Ansah (alias Hot Boy), 27

  • Kwadwo Konadu, 28

  • James Asare Boateng, 26

  • Emmanuel Asiedu, 27

  • Maxwell Gyimah, 30

  • Daniel Dwumor

One of the suspects, Bernard Owusu Ansah, sustained injuries during the operation and is currently receiving treatment under armed guard at KATH.

During interrogation, Kwadwo Kyei Baffour admitted to participating in the robberies and made a chilling confession—he had raped a victim during one of the attacks.

Weapons and Stolen Items Recovered


A search of the suspects' hideouts yielded a significant cache of stolen items and weapons:

  • Electronic gadgets: laptops, tablets, mobile phones, television sets, WiFi routers

  • Personal items: wristwatches

  • Vehicles:

    • Kia Morning

    • Two Toyota Corollas (Reg. Nos: GX 4388-19 and AS 4777-22)

  • Weapons and ammunition:

    • Taurus pistol (ACC721513) with 4 rounds of 9mm ammo

    • NP Cal 9x19mm pistol (No. 11501418)

    • Jojeff pump-action shotgun (No. 8782) with 33 rounds of ammunition

Areas Affected


The gang is believed to be responsible for a spate of robberies in Abuakwa, Tanoso, Apatrapa, Denkyembuoso, Appiadu, and other suburbs within the Kumasi metropolis. Victims reported being held hostage at gunpoint in their own homes and robbed of cash, electronics, and valuables.

Police Statement


Speaking at a media briefing on Monday, June 30, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, confirmed the arrests and praised the public for their cooperation. He assured residents of the region that the police remain committed to rooting out violent crime and maintaining peace and security.
“This operation is a reflection of our resolve to clamp down on criminal gangs who terrorize innocent residents. We’re grateful for the support of the public and urge continued collaboration,” he stated.

All suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court to face prosecution. Police investigations continue as efforts intensify to apprehend the remaining fugitive.
