The Ashanti Regional Police Command has taken two young men into custody over their alleged involvement in the robbery and killing of 28-year-old Silver Ngozi in Asokore Mampong.
Police say the victim was attacked on December 6, 2025, around 5:00 p.m., during which her iPhone 11 Pro was stolen and she was fatally stabbed with a sharp weapon believed to be a zigzag-edged knife.
After days of intelligence gathering, officers from the Regional Command and the Anti-Robbery Unit carried out a targeted operation on the night of December 12, 2025, leading to the arrest of the suspects at a hideout in Aboabo, Kumasi.
The suspects were named as Farouk Iddris, 20, a motorbike mechanic and rider, and Salim Mohammed, 19, a motorbike mechanic who also operates a rickshaw.
Speaking to the media on Monday, December 15, 2025, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, said initial investigations point to a robbery that turned deadly when one of the suspects allegedly stabbed the victim.
According to him, a search conducted in Farouk Iddris’s room uncovered several offensive weapons, including machetes and knives. He added that during questioning, the suspects admitted their involvement in the crime, with Salim Mohammed—who is believed to have been the pillion rider—identifying the zigzag-edged knife used in the attack.
“The suspects are in our custody and are fully cooperating with investigations. They will be arraigned before court in due course,” DCOP Akoto stated.
In a separate but related operation, police also arrested three other individuals suspected to be behind multiple street robberies in parts of Kumasi and surrounding communities, including Asokore Mampong, KNUST, Kenyasi, Bosore, Duase, Antoa, Mayanka, and Ayeduase.
The additional suspects—Abdul Fatawu, 22, also known as “UN”; Philip Nyarko, 24, alias “Kawawa”; and Samak Hadi, 21, popularly called “Toronto”—were arrested at another hideout in Aboabo.
Items retrieved during the operation included 59 iPhones, six Android phones, four tablets, five laptops, and other personal effects suspected to be stolen.
DCOP Akoto said the three suspects have admitted to their involvement in the robberies in their caution statements and are assisting police with further investigations.
He assured residents that the police remain committed to ensuring safety and security, especially during the festive period, and urged the public to stay alert and report suspicious activities.
As part of heightened security measures, the police commander disclosed that more than 1,000 officers have been deployed across the Ashanti Region to manage traffic and maintain law and order throughout the holidays.
