Ashanti Gold crushed out of the Caf Confederations Cup after a two nil defeat to Moroccan side RS Berkane in their second leg game clash in Morocco.
The miners endured their worst possible start to the game when centre back Musah Mohammed was sent off just in the eight minute of the game for a rough tackle although it was somewhat a harsh decision as a yellow card would have been a fair punishment.
Ashgold never recovered after that sending off and conceded in the 32nd minute after Dayo Issoufou put the host ahead from close range after a lapse in defence from the away side.
Two minutes later Ashgold thought they had won themselves a penalty when captain Shafiu Mumuni was cleanly put through on goal by Appiah McCarthy but was felled in the box only for the referee to signal for play to continue.
From then goalkeeper Frank Boateng had to make a flurry of saves to keep Ashgold in the game first from Alain Traore's low ball from close range and a minute later another awesome save to deny Krouch Zaid.
Just as the game was heading to halftime Krouch Zaid finally had his goal after beautifully curling beyond the despairing dive of goalkeeper Frank Boateng to make it two nil to the host and a tall other for the miners.
When the second half resumed Berkane piled on the pressure against a 10 man Ashgold side to try and extend their lead but the defence and goalie Frank Boateng stood tall.
The result mean the match ended 4-3 on aggregate in favour of the Moroccan side as the first leg in Obuasi ended 3-2 with RS Berkane qualifying to the group stages of the Caf Confederations Cup.
