An aide to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 elections, has strongly criticised the assault on journalists and the aggressive police presence during the Ablekuma North parliamentary election rerun.
In a post on social media, Dennis Miracles Aboagye described the attacks on media personnel as "completely shameful" and emphasised that “journalism is not a crime and should not be met with brutality.”
His remarks come in response to reports that two journalists, one from Joy News and another from GHOne TV were assaulted while covering the election rerun at various polling stations.
The GHOne reporter was allegedly slapped, while the Joy News journalist was reportedly manhandled while on duty.
Miracles also voiced his concerns over the presence of what he called "hoodlums in police uniforms," calling for their removal from polling stations to restore public confidence in the election process.
He further stated that the intimidating actions of some police officers were discouraging eligible voters from casting their ballots.
In a call for calm, Miracles reiterated the NPP's commitment to ensuring a peaceful, fair, and transparent electoral process.
