A joint statement from the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) has commended Ghanaians for the peaceful conduct of Monday December 7 General Elections.

The statement urged the people of Ghana to remain calm and exercise restraint as the Electoral Commission and relevant state institutions work around the clock to make the results of the election known.

It also urged the two leading political parties the NPP and the NDC to respect the peace pact they signed prior to the elections on December 4 and ensure that peace reign supreme in the country.

“Furthermore, we appeal to political parties and their followers to refrain from any conduct that may undermine the successful conclusion of the electoral process. We also call on state institutions to continue to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism and transparency,” it added.
