The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has eulogized Ama Benyiwa-Doe, a stalwart of the party who died over the weekend.

She died on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Tema, at age 73, after a long battle with I'll health, as disclosed by her special aide and constituency communication officer for Gomoa West Jerry Kissi-Dei Yeboah.

In a statement signed by the Party's Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the NDC described her as a "shining example of conviction, dedication, and hard work around which alone this party was built from grassroots up onto the heights that chalked the victories of nation-building and the cementing of the Social Democratic ideology into the political fabric of Ghana.”

The Statement continued that to the youth and most especially to the young women, 'Chavez', as she was affectionately called was "a bright star whose loyalty and commitment was a never-ending inspiration. Sadly, the Lord who gave her to us and has called her back home."

The party says it shall together with all stakeholders join hands with the family to honour her memory with a befitting farewell.

The late Ama Benyiwa-Doe was a one-time Central Regional Minister under the Mills government.

She also served as Deputy Minister for Social Welfare and Employment, and a former member of the Council of State during the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration.

Meanwhile, both the Former President John Dramani Mahama  and the sitting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have both given their condolence messages to the family.

In a Facebook post, Mr Mahama described her as "an embodiment of limitless courage, commitment, and passion for service", while His Excellency Akufo-Addo described her as a "good friend".
