The Ghana Black Stars will face the Austria national football team in a high-profile international friendly on Friday evening at the Ernst Happel Stadium, as both sides step up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
More than 40,000 tickets have already been sold for the match, reflecting strong anticipation for what is expected to be a competitive encounter between two World Cup-bound nations. The game will be broadcast live on Ghana Television and TV3 Ghana.
Austria head coach Ralf Rangnick has insisted his side will treat the fixture with full seriousness, despite its friendly status.
“Ghana is a technically sound team with physicality, athleticism and dynamism. This is exactly the kind of test we need,” he said.
Austria head into the match following an intensive training camp in Marbella, where preparations have included integrating new talents such as Paul Wanner and Carney Chukwuemeka.
Forward Michael Gregoritsch also expressed confidence ahead of the clash, describing international matches as special occasions.
For Ghana, the fixture provides another opportunity to test themselves against European opposition. Head coach Otto Addo believes the contest will be a valuable benchmark.
“In modern football, anyone can beat anyone. There are no small teams anymore,” he said.
Captain Jordan Ayew echoed that sentiment, stressing the importance of representing the nation with pride.
“We want to do well for our country. Every game is important, and this will be a tough one,” he said.
The two nations have met only once before, drawing 1-1 in Graz in 2007, adding further intrigue to Friday’s contest.
With both teams boasting a blend of physical strength, tactical discipline and technical quality, the encounter in Vienna is expected to offer a strong indication of their readiness for the global stage.
