The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) Ayawaso North, Hon. Yussif Jaja, has presented scholarship to 100 brilliant but needy students in the constituency.

The beneficiaries received between GH¢300 and GH¢1000.00 to cover tuition and other expenses for the 2018/2019 academic year.
Hon Jaja presented the scholarship packages at a short presentation held at the NDC's constituency office at Kotobabi on Friday 5th October, 2018.

He  reiterated his commitment to helping to raise academic performance of students in the area.
"Education, is the greatest legacy, that parents and guardians could leave for their children, " he told ghanaguardian.

"This scholarship was not only meant to offer financial assistance students but it is also to inspire them to work hard to achieve academic laurels.

"Some of us have reached this height because of education and it is our utmost hope and aim to ensure every brilliant child in the Ayawaso North gets the needed push to reach a higher heights"

The legislator said with the 2018 package has been increased to cater for more students since the burden cannot be born by parents alone and promised to expand it next academic year to benefit more students in the constituency.

He urged all students of the constituency to apply or the scholarship irrespective of their political affiliations.

"When it comes to education, we are talking about the progress of  Ayawaso North which am your representative in parliament," he said.

"I will urge each and every student  in need of support to apply for this package in the next academic year.

It is my duty to contribute to the development of my people  and I will do my best to achieve that."

The selection was done by a special committee set up by the MP after it received applications from the students.

The beneficiary students are in the first, second, third and fourth years in universities, technical universities, colleges of education, nursing training colleges and other tertiary institutions.

The NDC Chairman for the constituency Mr Mohammed Tahiru urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity given them and study hard to merit further push.

"This scholarship package is meant to lessen the burden on parents  regarding the payment of tuition fees and other expenses," he added.
