Foreign Affairs minister and Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Shirley Ayorkor Botcwey, has given her version of her altercation with some MPs in the corridors of parliament on Monday, December 17, 2018.
According to her, raising her hand was merely a gesture, and not intent to assault the MP for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George.
She further explained that in the course of a heated conversation, Same George was using his phone to record the entire incident.
She therefore sought to stop him, as she considered the act a violation of her privacy, which is not acceptable.
He was heard afterwards saying he would report to the speaker that he had been assaulted by the minister.
The incident occurred after the minister had accosted the MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, with regard to allegations about the cost of a six-bedroom residence for Ghana’s new mission in Norway.
The minority argued that the cost, as given by the minister, appears to have been inflated by $8 million, and as such there was a need to investigate it.
This accusation by the minority forced the speaker to suspend sitting for further deliberations.
