Azorka arrested over alleged assault during Akwatia by-election

The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested Alhaji Sofo Azorka in connection with the alleged assault of Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the third national Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during the Akwatia by-election held on September 2, 2025.

In a statement released on Friday, September 12, police confirmed that Azorka was arrested in Tamale on Wednesday, September 10, as part of ongoing investigations into the incident. He has since provided a caution statement and has been granted bail.

According to the statement, Alhaji Azorka is expected to report to the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Kyebi on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., where he will be arraigned before the court.

“The police assures the public of a thorough investigation into the matter, hence entreats all to remain calm as further development shall be communicated,” the statement noted.
