Lawyer and Politician Baba Jamal has broken his silence on the intensifying legal feud surrounding the estate and funeral affairs of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, insisting that the Fosu Royal Family remains the rightful authority in matters concerning the musician’s final wishes.
His comments come amid growing public tension between the two surviving spouses of the late singer—Akosua Serwaa, his first wife, and Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni—following a series of court battles over spousal recognition, funeral arrangements, and control of the late artist’s estate.
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, died on July 26, 2025, at The Bank Hospital in Accra after a brief illness.
His death triggered months of disputes involving family members, spouses, and supporters, with legal action spilling into the public space and dividing opinion over who should oversee his burial and estate.
Akosua Serwaa initially filed an application at the Kumasi High Court seeking to be declared the sole lawful wife of the late musician, but the court struck out her request, dealing her camp a major setback.
Baba Jamal addressed criticism directed at his law firm, Baba Jamal and Associates, which has represented Odo Broni and the family head, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, throughout the proceedings.
Supporters of Akosua Serwaa, popularly referred to as “Team Legal Wives,” have attacked him personally, accusing his firm of influencing the outcome of the case.
However, Baba Jamal dismissed those claims, stressing that he has no personal involvement in the courtroom hearings.
“Even though it is my law firm, I am not the lawyer handling the matter. I never attended even one hearing,” he stated, adding that his firm merely provided legal services based on instructions from the family.
He maintained that lawyers do not create conflict but act on the directives of their clients.
Beyond defending his firm’s role, Baba Jamal strongly reaffirmed the Fosu Royal Family’s authority over Daddy Lumba’s funeral, burial, and estate administration.
He revealed that the family holds what he described as Daddy Lumba’s final instructions, which are guiding decisions on how his affairs should be handled. His legal team also issued a warning against the spread of unverified or defamatory statements about the late musician, urging the media and the public to exercise restraint.
The lawyer further challenged claims made by Akosua Serwaa and her supporters, arguing that she deserted Daddy Lumba about 15 years ago.
In contrast, the family continues to recognise Odo Broni as the wife who cared for the musician in his later years, affirming her legitimacy and role in funeral decisions.
Baba Jamal’s camp has also urged creditors or individuals claiming Daddy Lumba owed them money to submit their claims directly to the family’s lawyers instead of discussing such matters publicly.
The legal wrangling has also affected Daddy Lumba’s children. In a related development, his daughter Charlyn Fosuh withdrew from her mother’s application for letters of administration over the estate.
Speaking in a TikTok livestream after the news went viral, Charlyn explained that the children preferred an amicable family settlement rather than prolonged court battles.
