Residents of many farming communities in Adeiso; an area in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region are complaining of bad roads in their communities.

The communities which included, Babytse, Odumkyere Dermang, Abisim, Amanfrom, Tetteh Nkwanta, Abonyensu, Dauda, Kwame Doudu, Wudurudu number two and Sunkrom among others have been neglected for many years in terms of good roads in the area.

According to the residents, the bad roads are impeding economic activities in the communities.

Vehicles hardly come to their communities because of the nature of the roads compelling them to walk long distances to their destinations.

Apart from that, some farmers in those communities have been struggling for many years to bring their foodstuffs home and to the market for sale.

A taxi driver, Edward Nortey who is also a resident in one of the towns told UTV News that the roads have damaged his car.

He said women, children and the elderly are the most affected when it rains heavily.

He asked the government to immediately come to their aid.

Okyeame Oteng Abramsamadu Katawere who is also a resident of Babytse community said the situation is so bad that it has become a painful experience for pregnant women to travel to nearby clinics for antenatal or to give birth due to lack of CHPS compound in the area.

Okyeame Katawere said sometimes the expectant mothers have to be carried on motorbikes to nearby health centres for medical examination or to deliver.

According to him, drivers have taken advantage of the situation to charge exorbitant fares and traders and farmers have no option than to pay.

Residents are hoping that something will be done urgently by government to fix the road
