The Bread Bakers Association in the Ashanti Region have threatened to cease operations if the government does not does not intervene in the challenges the bakers say have hampered their businesses.

According to report, president of the bakers association, Comfort Akotua expressed the sentiment that in February of 2019 alone, the price of flour was increased five times and this has continued into March.

The threat of the bakers follows in on the Ghana National Flour Users Association plans to hit the streets on 13th and 14th of March 2019.

The Ashanti regional bakers have also threatened to strike which means they will not bake bread for wide consumer benefit.

It is not known how many bakers belong to the bakers association or how many will be compliant with the leadership's call strike.

According to Akotua, a bag of flour that was sold for GHC 120 in early February is now selling for GHC 165 in early March.

The corresponding effect on the price of bread is that a loaf that previously sold for GHC 5 will be sold for GHC 6 starting from March 14, 2019.
