The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) must be banned for causing tension in the country, Occupy Ghana member, Sydney Casely-Hayford has said.

Speaking on political talkshow The Big Issue, Mr. Casely-Hayford said: “If I had my own way and I could and if we had the guts we would ban both those parties. Both the NDC and the NPP have to be banned. The minute you create mayhem and you don’t conform and don’t comply with what needs to be done, you should be banned,”

“They need to do what is proper and right. As a group that says they want to get involved in the political evolution of this country… They can’t do it by fighting and by creating mayhem and by distorting the picture of what we have.”

Ghanaians also want no part of the tensions ahead of 2020 elections, Mr. Casely-Hayford added in his submission.

“They [Ghanaians] don’t want any mayhem. They don’t want any boot for boot and they don’t want anybody coming in to come and create confusion within the voting system.”

Mr. Casely-Hayford also felt former President John Mahama erred when he met with foreign diplomats to showcase the violence from the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
“What Mahama did recently, packaging all of this he is hearing in the media and going to do a presentation to foreign diplomats is an irresponsible act. It is totally irresponsible. If he has something to say, he should come and say it to us the people of the country… The way they are trying to put a cloak around Ghana as some kind of country that is uncoordinated, indirection, mayhem all over the place.”

He said Mr. Mahama and the NDC were “creating this tension” and making it look like “the country is about to explode.”
